What you'll do

The Product Strategy and Innovation team forms a critical part of the wider Product Management team and is responsible for two key activities:

  • Ensuring that Aptitude is exploring the full potential of its offerings to deliver maximum value our current and future target markets
  • Ensuring that the portfolio has a long-term strategy for growth that is backed by research and analysis and well-articulated internally and externally.

Exploring the potential of our offerings will require gathering and analyzing data about customers, competitors, and current openings in the market. Understanding the needs of our clients & partners and the competitive differentiation various opportunities would offer to Aptitude will provide the foundation for a well-informed strategy which may present development, partnership or acquisition opportunities.

As Product Strategist you will be responsible for:

  • Gathering information via research as well as internal and external collaboration with subject matter experts
  • Collaborating and liaising with our Product and Engineering teams to compile necessary information, kick off next steps and share vision and conclusions
  • Compile and present research to support the qualification or disqualification recommendation for new opportunities taken through the Strategy & Innovation assessment process
  • If qualified, provide recommended approach and prioritization of opportunities through cost and benefit analysis with special attention to constraints, speed to market and overall budgetary considerations
  • Present complex research findings to management in an easy-to-understand manor
  • Communicate and sell long-term strategy to senior leadership
  • Consult on the execution of approved strategies with the appropriate owners to ensure vision becomes reality
  • Continuously adapt our strategy to cope with changing market circumstances
  • Engage externally to share our vision and maintain an external presence for Aptitude and the Product Strategy & Innovation team

These processes cover but are not limited to the exploration of new markets, new solutions and new partnerships that expand our offering and achieve our goals for continuous growth.

You will provide guidance to the company through periods of growth and change inclusive of difficult and sometimes risky decisions on the way. Conditions are constantly changing, and the strategists are there to keep everyone’s eyes open for hidden traps.

Whilst primarily remote-based, there will be a need to travel on an ad-hoc basis to our local (Boston) and international offices.

What we're looking for

Our ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:

  • Demonstrated experience in Product Strategy at a Software as a Service company
  • Expert research and analysis skills
  • Ability through research and collaboration to analyze complex accounting, finances, and technological topics
  • Ability to translate product opportunities into commercial opportunities
  • Familiarity with go-to-market processes
  • Familiarity with financial systems in accounting and finance functions
  • Ability to concisely explain accounting concepts to non-accountants or technical concepts to non-technicians
  • Able to instigate activities that innovate, iterate, and evolve Aptitude’s portfolio
  • Highly intelligent, creative and innovative, but with the discipline and hands-on approach and personal drive to achieve practical results
  • Intellectually agile, highly numerate, analytical and precise; demonstrates a balance of technical knowledge and business acumen
  • Ability to effectively share knowledge and skills with others where required
  • A robust and clear communication style
  • Able to engage and influence stakeholders effectively, with the ability to present sound and well-reasoned arguments
  • Results focused
  • Able to work well as part of a team also able to use own initiative
  • Self-starter, resourceful and self-motivated.
