What you'll do

The Senior Systems Administrator is part of the infrastructure team. The team’s key responsibilities include:

  • Utilising modern DevOps practices and processes, the design, build and operation of the eSuite architecture built on a combination of both Azure and AWSHosting and reliability assurance of all eSuite hosting environments, providing high availability, 365 days, 24/7
  • Cloud infrastructure monitoring and incident management
  • The ongoing maintenance of all eSuite hosting environments
  • Operating within controlled frameworks that include PCI DSS, SOC 1 & SOC 2, ISO27001, GDPR.
  • Robust preventative maintenance programmes

As Senior Systems Administrator you will take ownership and lead infrastructure projects which are delegated to you by the Cloud Operations Manager. Using your excellent project management, you will ensure that these projects are delivered to designated timescales and to the highest technical standards. Using clear and concise written and verbal communication, you will provide regular updates to key stakeholders. You will be responsible for low level management issues regarding system monitoring, server performance, network monitoring, infrastructure support, as well as acting as 2nd line escalation on out-of-hours support. You will play a key role in driving pro-active and reactive monitoring, event correlation, and management tools for all IT infrastructure and applications, performing troubleshooting and resolving problems. You will take ownership through to successful completion of infrastructure and operational tasks, collaborating and seeking support as necessary from across the team, as well as providing support to team members to help contribute towards a high performing culture.

As Senior Systems Administrator you will champion the goal of automation, looking for opportunities to reduce manual intervention and seeking solutions that help to streamline processes. You will be passionate about technology, demonstrating curiosity and a technologist mindset that shows a willingness to do things differently, taking in to account the latest technologies in the market.

We offer hybrid working with the combination of being office-based (either Manchester or Warrington) and working from home.

What we're looking for

Our ideal candidate will have the following skills & experience:


  • Good understanding of MS Windows Server deployment, administration and troubleshooting – up to current versions
  • Good understanding of modern web hosting technologies, in particular IIS
  • Good understanding of MS Active Directory
  • Familiarity with MS SQL Server administration – recent versions
  • Familiarity with Azure and/or AWS core foundational services and IaC deployment
  • Familiarity with configuration management – ansible/terraform
  • Basic PowerShell, Python Scripting
  • Basic linux admin and bash scripting
  • Basic Source control – git
  • A self-starter with strong time management skills.

Desirable – We are flexible on these, and it’s fine if you have some gaps. Training will be provided as needed.

  • Proven experience in a HA (high availability) environment
  • Experience of working in PCI compliant environments
  • Experience of working with cyber security practices
  • Shell scripting
  • Network & website monitoring software, vulnerability scanning (Grafana, Datadog, nagios etc)
  • Redis or similar data storage technologies
