Advance fee share scams are a common type of fraud where individuals are asked to pay money upfront to facilitate a proposed transaction but do not receive anything in return. Typical examples of which include scenarios where fraudsters contact a shareholder with an attractive offer to purchase their shares.
However, this offer will come with a request for money upfront as a bond or other form of security, which the scammers say they will pay back if the sale does not go ahead. But once this fee is paid, the shareholder will be unlikely to ever hear from them again.
It is possible that shareholders in Aptitude Software Group plc could be targeted by such fraudsters and indeed there is evidence to suggest that some may already have received such approaches.
