What you'll do

As a Senior Functional Consultant, you will be responsible for the functional configuration of Aptitude Software (‘Aptitude’) products, as well as contributing to the overall solution design. Critical to the success of your role will be your client communication and management skills.

With support from others, there is an expectation that you will identify, and report risks to senior colleagues to ensure the team is consistently striving to deliver value to all parties. You will be aware of the factors that drive the commercial relationship between Aptitude and our clients.

You will have a good understanding of the Aptitude product(s) capabilities, liaising with project colleagues to match client requirements onto those capabilities.

As a Senior Consultant you will help to implement best practices to be followed by your team to ensure that our delivery is fit for purpose. You will actively engage with the Centre of Excellence (“CoE”) and other project teams to share knowledge, best practices and lessons learned.

As a Senior Functional Consultant, you will:


  • Rapidly gain a full understanding of the project streams that you are assigned to, with the capability to assess, report and recommend risk mitigation.
  • Take responsibility for streams of work within the project; liaising with clients and leading other consultants.
  • Perform and guide colleagues according to best practice, maintaining a focus on the quality and timeliness of deliverables.
  • Provide mentoring and knowledge transfer to client business, finance and/or production support staff to whom the solution will be transitioned at project completion.


  • Apply good knowledge of accounting principles and the various facets of Technical Accounting.
  • Have a good understanding of double entry, FX concepts and period end processes.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of products / financial instruments from an accounting perspective.


  • Show a good awareness of delivery approaches, agile, waterfall or hybrid, and the different project stages.
  • Demonstrate a good understanding of RDBMS concepts and an ability to interrogate data sets using database SQL.
  • With support:
  • Develop interface requirements mapping documents and with the broader team advise parties involved in the data integration work.
  • Create functional specifications as part of the functional design process.
  • Work with the business to define accounting rules and related functional software configuration.

In future, this role will likely require regular travel to client sites and in the meantime the flexibility to support clients in different US time zones remotely.

What we're looking for

The ideal candidate will have the following skills & experience:

  • Experience of working in Finance within Financial Services or Insurance in a line role (Product Control, Stat. & Reg Reporting)
  • Preferably qualified in Accounting
  • Experience in defining and implementing Accounting Policy and the rules to create journal debit and credit lines for various financial lifecycle-based events
  • Experience of implementing Financial Systems/General Ledger projects within Financial Services or Insurance
  • Experience in General Ledger package configuration considered an advantage
  • Ideally with experience in enterprise-wide finance transformation projects, with an ability to engage with senior level executives, such as CFOs, Global Treasurers, and Finance Directors
  • Experience working with data driven projects is important, as is implementation of solutions within component architectures Data Warehouses, data-marts, accounting engines, sub-ledgers. MIS or Business Intelligence, EDA, SOA, BI, ETL.
  • Strong technical understanding and ability to run SQL query skills (for interrogating source system and understanding more complex queries written by developers to help investigation)
  • Business analysis, including structure documentation, and process analysis skills
  • Relational database understanding
  • Ability to match between requirements of the client and the features of product we offer and design the best solution
  • Experience in Finance and Risk Data Warehouses considered an advantage
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the presence, tact and credibility to gain the buy-in of a diverse community of business stakeholders, technology teams, peers, project managers, and external partners
  • Strong presentation skills considered an advantage.
  • Able to actively contribute to discussions in meetings and become a trusted advisor.
  • Highly intelligent, creative and innovative, but with the discipline, hands-on approach and personal drive to achieve practical results
